What comes to my mind every time I travel through Bosnia & Herzegovina. A Country that keeps going forward, year by year getting closer to our standards, without losing its own identity.
I have been passing through this country and its cities for five years.
The enchanting Sarajevo catches your attention and its silence goes straight to your heart. Silence is the first thing that strikes the traveler, maybe because it is the obvious answer to the noise left by years of war. We should not be surprised if these “difficult” people look so quiet, as if they would not mix with the “rest of the world” that may not truly understand what really happened.
Walking through those roads has made me feel like a ghost or even invisible. Neither a glance, nor a word. Everybody goes on his own way minding his own business…something so different for someone like me coming from a country of noise and intimate interaction.
So many different places, nevertheless only one feeling, one sensation…this country, just around the corner, unintentionally hides and holds infinite paradises.
It would be enough to listen and overcome those groundless fears and those prejudices that make us still think that Sarajevo is a city of war. Through the last years the sentence that has resounded in my ears the most is: “Sarajevo!? There’s a war over there!”The war, a real one, WE don’t realize has taken place many years ago!!!
